Work with Refugees from Burma

The Three Rivers Language Center has been conducting a pilot survey of the languages spoken by refugees from Burma in the Fort Wayne area with aid from the Burmese Advocacy Center. In the survey, we find out what languages people speak, how well they claim to speak and read each language, and their attitudes toward the various languages. We correlate this information with basic demographic information such as age, gender, ethnicity, religion, amount of time lived in Fort Wayne, and so on.

In addition, in 2012 we co-sponsored an event on campus celebrating the graduation of high school students from the Burma refugee community. We will co-sponsor the same event in June, 2013. You can read about the 2012 event HERE.
