Applied Physics Workshop

June 25-29, 2018
Purdue University Fort Wayne

What is the Schedule and Structure?

The workshop is organized around four physics themes:

Each day teams will build two apparatus for each theme. Descriptions of the sessions can be found on the main page. On the fifth day, participants will be regrouped. Teachers will work on physics teaching pedagogy to integrate the apparatus into their curriculum. Students will develop long-term research projects and demonstrations around the apparatus that they can continue through the school year.

During the lunch hour we will highlight career paths in physics. Professional physicists from many different careers will share. Information from the American Institute of Physics will also be presented.

What Does It Cost to Attend?

Thanks to generous support from the William F. and Edith R. Meggers Project award of the American Institute of Physics, there is no cost for attending the workshop or for materials. Lunch is provided Housing is provided for participants from outside a 40 mile radius. Transportation and other meals are not provided.

Benefits for Teachers

High school teachers will receive Professional Growth Points (PGP’s) and are eligible to receive a $200 stipend for attending the Applied Physics Teaching workshop. Teacher and student teams will receive an additional $200 for bringing students to share a demonstration at PhysFESTT 2019, as well as travel support.

Additional funds are available to present at state and national meetings of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
