Windeg Elm is a medium sized tree 30-40 feet high that flowers and fruits in spring. Leaves are leathery dark green on the upper surface; paler and downy on the lower. Branches are reddish brown with two opposite, thin corky ridges that protrude one half inch. Winged Elm wood, like Rock Elm, is used for making furniture. Twigs and leaves are eaten by deer in early spring.
