A
red oak type with 7 to 11 lobed, bristle-tipped leaves. Sinuses, indentations
between lobes, not cut so deeply as with Pin, Shumard, or Scarlet Oaks.
The acorn is enclosed in a flat saucer-like cap. A fast growing tree
under good conditions, it does not develop a taproot. It will develop
chlorosis at high pH.
