Also known as the Indiana Banana, fruits of the Pawpaw are banana-like, but muskier in flavor. It is a member of the Custard-apple family, Annonaceae, though all other members of this family are tropical. Winter buds are flattened, silky-hairy, and without bud scales. Crushed foliage has a green pepper smell. Named varieties have been selected which produce consistent fruit crops. Flowers are deep maroon in color. |
