Leaves are generally heart-shaped and among the largest of any Indiana tree. Flowers are in large showy clusters, white with purplish spots. Fruit is a long, narrow pod. Buds and leaves are usually in a whorled arrangement. A medium-sized tree to 60 feet, it was once used extensively around homesites as an ornamental.
