Arborvitae or White Cedar grows in swamps on acidic, peat-rich soil, and also on limestone cliffs and alkaline soils. It can reach 100 feet in height. Primarily a more northerly species, many of its cultivars are used throughout Indiana as ornamentals in the landscape.
