Cockspur Hawthorn has a broad, rounded habit with horizontal thorny branches, a small tree reaching only 30 feet. Alternate, simple, and lobed leaves which are thick and glossy. Stems are covered with sharp, numerous slender thorns 2-3 inches long. The trunks are usually exposed in masses of thorny clusters. This tree is mostly used in groupings for screens and barriers.
