A close relative of European Linden, and sometimes referred to as American Linden. Fragrant flower clusters attract a wide range of pollinating insects, and are especially attractive to honey bees. A nitrogen demanding species, it grows poorly on nitrogen-deficient sites. Leaves are heart-shaped with an asymetrical base.
