As your read Chapter 4 and 5: Mission Possible???

For this week's readings about CMC, your mission is to, of course, experience two aspects of CMC:

1) Solving a problem in a virtual group;

2) Getting to know someone in order to determine if you would like to meet them "offline."

The Discussion: To accomplish this, I will give you the problem (in class on Thursday night). You will have until the following Thursday night to solve it and to decide who, amongst your ANONYMOUS classmates, you would think you would "friend" offline

Rules:

*All posts must be anonymous. 

*You cannot just post your list of clues.

*Use appropriate "netiquette" (i.e., no flaming, etc.).

The Analysis: On Tuesday, November 19, you will turn in a 2 - 3 page paper (DS etc.) applying the information from Chapters 4 and 5 to this experience.  For instance, were you tempted to mis-attribute any of the group behaviors?  Did you feel the group used/should have used different rules?  Were you concerned about deception in the online environment?  Did you feel that the relative anonymity (probably people will be revealed :) affected your communication?  your classmates' communication? 

 

 

1. Choose one theoretical perspective or taxonomy that you feel has the ability to offer increased understanding of the dark side of relationships, be prepared to argue why that is the case

2. Choose one area of dark side research that you feel is among the most important topics communication researcher can study. Why?
