Unit One: Beginning our Journey (or just getting to know each other).

Monday - Wednesday (1/12): Quiz over Chapter One (click on Chapter to see a list of the key concepts you need to consider as you read; actual quiz is in Blackboard).

By Wednesday (1/12) : Post a quick introduction to your group in the discussion forum "Naming our Group." Then, please decide on a name for your group (remember you will be stuck with this the entire semester) and email that to me by Friday, January 14.

By Wednesday (1/12): Post your initial answer in your group discussion forum (see information on Units page for Successfully Using Discussion Forums) to the following:

Given the case study on page, 30, "A Misunderstanding Between Friends," what should you do? Write a sentence or two stating exactly what action you feel you should take if you were in this situation. Then, support your decision using information from your text. The format for your answer (and the group's final answer) should be:

Action: Sentence or two

Support: Paragraph or two that provides support, explanation, reasoning using what you have learned in Chapter one, including page numbers.

Wednesday - Wednesday (1/19): Discussion of case study in your groups. Final answers (in the above format) must be posted in your forum by Wednesday, 1/19 with the topic "FINAL ANSWER FOR YOURGROUPNAME".

Friday (1/14): Your first webpage is due today. It is relatively simple:

Things to remember about webpages:

Here's Brandy's example

Friday - Thursday (1/20): COM 212 Scavenger Hunt

Rules: Simple – be nice! Remember this exercise is not about challenging each other (that will come later:), it is about getting to know one another and making impressions, here’s where you begin practicing your interpersonal skills!

From your classmates websites, find and post these in the class discussion forum "Scavenger Hunt." One post per person is enough. Please check these and respond to people who have posted about your page.

  1. The person who has created the website that is easiest to find the main points – what did he/she do that accomplished this?
  2. The person who you would most like to ask a question of – what question would that be?
  3. The person who you think may be most like you – what do the two of you have in common (please, do NOT use “same major”)?
  4. The person who did the best job of completing all parts of the assignment, why do you say this (briefly);
  5. The person with the most creative website, why do you feel it is creative?;
  6. The person whose websites seems to share their personality with the reader, what makes you say this?;
  7. The person whom you feel you would be interested in getting to know – why (do not say he/she “looks” good – we are deeper than that in this class ;)?

Thursday - Sunday (1/23): Debate final answers for case study in Unit One Debate Discussion Forum (see Units page for information on Debating Final Answers).

Friday (1/21): Final revisions to Unit One Interpersonal Analysis Webpage (IAW) due.
