A red oak type, Blackjack Oak is a small tree, reaching only 40 feet. Usually scrubby and `gothic-looking’, sometimes shrub-like, it is found in dry, infertile soil. Mature leaves are downy on the lower surface with 3 rounded bristle-tipped lobes.
