A deciduous,leaf-losing, conifer that grows on saturated and seasonally inundated areas, Baldcypress will develop knees if growing in saturated soils. In Indiana, its native range was only in the southwest, but it makes an excellent landscaping tree in a range of soils. The bark is thin and shreddy. Seeds are eaten by many species of wildlife; they were important food of the now-extinct Carolina Parakeet.
